Planning enforcement action is a discretionary power which relates to breaches of planning control.

The Council has a Local Enforcement Plan which explains the planning enforcement process in greater detail and also details how the Planning Department will process planning enforcement matters.

We have also produced a list of Frequently Asked Questions on planning enforcement

Enforcing compliance with planning control can be both time consuming and complex. The Council can only use its enforcement powers effectively if there is sufficient information available to enable an initial assessment to be made.

Reporting a breach of planning control can be done via our online planning forms.

High Hedges

The Planning Department will also deal with complaints received under the High Hedges legislation. However, there is a statutory process which must be followed before the Council can become involved. Further information and guidance is set out below.
