There are a number of disruptions to Council services because of Coronavirus (COVID-19). For details of these service disruptions and for advice and guidance visit www.stockton.gov.uk/coronavirus
We’re very proud to be home to six towns:
Last year we asked for your thoughts on Stockton Town Centre to get an idea of the types of things you would like to see.
We received around 1,000 responses which are helping to inform an exciting future for Stockton town centre.
Included in the plans are a riverside park featuring public artwork and green space for families to enjoy, office buildings and a “land bridge” structure which would enable the park to span a section of Riverside Road to provide access to the waterfront.
We are also proposing to build a new central library, customer service centre and Council office on the site, kick-starting the town’s regeneration and saving money by consolidating 10 existing offices into two (one in Stockton and one in Billingham).
The main retail offer for Stockton would be focussed on Wellington Square, its 700-year-old market, and other parts of the High Street and town centre, such as Silver Street.
Castlegate Centre tenants will begin to be relocated soon with a view to starting the demolition of Castlegate and the Swallow Hotel in 2022.
The construction of the riverside park and office buildings would follow with a target completion date of 2025.
From the start of the year until mid-February, we held a series of consultations to find out about your ideas for Billingham, Norton, Ingleby Barwick, Thornaby and Yarm.
Thank you to everyone who took part. All the responses are being considered and will help shape the future plans for each of the towns as well as details relating to the Council’s new Billingham office.
