The Economic Strategy and Spatial Planning team provides planning policy advice to the council and external organisations and individuals.
The Economic Strategy and Spatial Planning team's main role is preparing the Development Plan for the Borough. The Development Plan sets out the council's policies for meeting the community's economic, environmental and social aims for the future, where this affects the development and use of land. We are also working on the Community Infrastructure Levy.
We are now working towards a new Local Plan. This will be entitled the Stockton-on-Tees Local Plan and will replace many of the existing documents within the adopted Development Plan. There will be a number of consultation periods on the emerging Local Plan prior to it being submitted to the Secretary of State for Independent Examination.
Further information regarding the adopted Development Plan and emerging Stockton-on-Tees Local Plan can be found using the following links:

All applications for planning permission are determined in accordance with the Development Plan unless material considerations indicate otherwise. The National Planning Policy Framework is a very important material consideration when making planning decisions. It sets out the Government's planning policies for England and how they expect them to be applied.
