There is currently no license issued or fee for the placing of tables and chairs (a street café), advertising boards or other displays on the adopted highway within Stockton Borough.

The placing of tables and chairs (a street café), advertising boards or other displays on the adopted highway (roads and pavements) within the Stockton Borough was recently reviewed through the Council’s Scrutiny process.  The outcome of this process was for a set of guidance to be produced and for the placing of these temporary items of furniture by businesses to be self-regulatory, with there being enforcement intervention when businesses do not follow the information set out in the guidance.

The placing of tables and chairs (a street café), advertising boards or other displays on the adopted highway will be monitored with regular reports being presented to the Scrutiny Committee.  Should the information within the guidance not be followed by businesses it may be that the self-regulatory approach is reviewed.
