Big plans for the young people of our Borough

About the Stockton Local Safeguarding Children Board (SLSCB)

slscb

The Stockton-on-Tees Local Safeguarding Children Board (SLSCB) aims to keep children and young people in Stockton-on-Tees safe from harm, particularly those who are most vulnerable, and tries to ensure that they feel secure, well cared for, and able to reach their full potential.

The legislation, which we work under, is contained within the Local Safeguarding Children Board Regulations 2005.

Members

SLSCB has a Chair and three Lay Members who are independent of all the partner organisations represented on the Board.

The Board itself is made up of Senior Management representatives from agencies across the Borough who are involved in providing services to children and their families. This includes social care services, education, health, the police, probation, the voluntary sector, youth offending services, early years services - in fact, any organisation providing services for children.

  • Carry out specific tasks for example; maintaining and updating procedures and protocols, reviewing serious cases', and identifying inter-agency training needs
  • Provide specialist advice, for example in respect of working with specific ethnic and cultural groups, or with disabled children and / or parents
  • Bring together representatives of a sector to discuss relevant issues and to provide a contribution from that sector to LSCB work, for example schools, the voluntary and community sector, faith groups
  • Focus on defined geographical areas within the SLSCB's boundaries.

Safeguarding Forums

To support staff in Education Settings and the Community & Voluntary Sector, Safeguarding Forums have been established and are well attended. Further details in respect of the Education Settings Forums can be obtained from the Safeguarding Information for Schools pages of the Council website and Catalyst for the Voluntary and Community Sector.
