Applying to secondary schools

Stockton Borough residents will need to apply for a school place through Stockton Borough Council, whether your preferred school is within the area or in another Borough.

We are responsible for all applications for school places whether the school is a community school or voluntary aided.

If you are applying for a place at a community or controlled school, we will decide which school your child will attend, taking into account your preferred schools.

We will forward applications received for other Local Authorities, VA schools or Academies so that they can consider the applications according to their policy.

A meeting will be arranged with governors, the Local Authority will be informed and we will send a decision letter to parents. We are responsible for informing parents about the place or right to appeal on behalf of the VA school or Academy. Appeals for VA schools or Academies will be directed to their governing bodies.

Our Borough is divided into areas known as ‘admission zones’. An admission zone is given to each school within our Borough and where you live will affect which school this is. We will always encourage you to look at the school in your admission zone when choosing a school place for your child.

The yearly intake for secondary school is September.


When will your child start secondary school in 2015

If your child was born between 1 September 2003 - 31 August 2004 your child is due to start secondary school in September 2015.


Apply to a secondary school

The application deadline for secondary admissions in September 2014 has now closed, however if you still need to apply for a place please complete the form and return it to School Admissions Section, Children Education & Social Care, Municipal Buildings, Church Road, Stockton-on-Tees, TS18 1XE. Please note this will be classed as a late application.

8 September 2014
Letter is sent to parents/guardians with information on how to apply.

31 October 2014
Closing date for applications.

2 March 2015
If you applied online you will receive an email on the 2 March, the first working day after national offer day, informing you of your allocation. We will also post out letters to notify you which school your child has been allocated. We will also send you a letter by 2nd class post confirming this. If you do not receive a letter please contact School Admissions.

May/June 2015
Appeals will be heard.
