How to become a foster carer

fostering and adoption

Our Child Placement Team look after both fostering and adoption cases and organise training and development sessions for carers.

They are the first point of contact if you are considering fostering. We have incorporated the stages of the foster care process below.

Initial visit

Complete the application form within the information pack and we will visit you to give you more information.

 

Preparation group

You will attend a preparation and training course which usually involves six to eight sessions.

 

Assessment

There will be a series of visits to your home which will include meetings with household members.

Read a prospective foster carer's thoughts on assessment.

 

The panel

A social worker presents your home study to the panel who will consider your application.

 

Final decision

The Head of Operations will make a final decision about whether you should be approved.

 

Placements

If you are approved, we will contact you when we have children who need placements.
