Cash boost for Stockton Borough for supported housing
More than £200,000 has been secured by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council to help them provide supported accommodation for people with learning disabilities.
The Council bid for money from the Government's Housing and Technology Fund for Learning Disability, which provides capital funding to help people with learning disabilities live independently in their local communities.
The Council will match the allocated £202,000 to adapt three properties across the Borough to meet the needs of adults with complex needs. The properties will be fitted with high quality appliances and amenities, and make use of new technologies and other tailored adaptations to enable people to remain living independently. Residents will also have access to round the clock expert care and support services funded by the Council.
Once complete, the properties will be leased on a reduced rent to residents through a social landlord.
Councillor Jim Beall, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Services and Health, said: "This funding will boost the work already being undertaken by the Council to help people with learning disabilities and complex needs to live independently for longer.
"The supported accommodation will also provide an opportunity for adults who currently access services outside of the Borough to receive support locally that is best tailored to their needs."
The supported living scheme will be funded by the Department for Health, Disabled Facilities Grants match funding, and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
