23 March 2017

Ambitious plans to boost economic growth across Stockton Borough have been launched by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.

AMBITIOUS plans to boost economic growth across Stockton Borough have been launched by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.

The Economic Growth Plan 2017-2020 sets out the Council's ambitions and programme of activity over the next three years to stimulate business and economic growth across the Borough.

The document was developed following consultation with local businesses, stakeholders, and organisations including Nifco, the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) and Federation of Small Businesses.

It outlines how the Council will promote apprenticeship and employment opportunities, attract new start-ups and support sustainable growth of existing businesses, and continue to offer exciting and distinctive places for people to live, work, enjoy and visit.

Councillor Nigel Cooke, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, said: "The Economic Growth Plan is about securing a bright future for the Borough's many residents, businesses and visitors.

"We have worked in consultation with a number of local businesses and organisations and their involvement has been an important part of developing the plan. The document sets out exactly how we will develop our work over the next three years - by further supporting businesses, stimulating economic growth and creating jobs and opportunities for future generations to prosper.

"We have a very clear and ambitious vision for the future and we look forward to building on the work we already do to ensure a diverse, strong and evolving economy."

Managing Director of Nifco UK and President of the North East England Chamber of Commerce, Mike Matthews, added: "Stockton is a fantastic place to do business, and that is - in no small part - down to the efforts of the Council who have been a fantastic support to us at Nifco and to many other businesses in the area.

"The new growth plan for the Borough is a mark of intent from Stockton and I am sure it will lead to a more prosperous area with additional jobs and investment."

The plan supports the wider Economic Strategy 2017-2032 which details the Council's long-term vision for Stockton-on-Tees in the next 15 years.
