Cycling in the Borough

cycling

We're keen to support cycling in the Borough, not only is it a cost effective alternative for many short car journeys, it can improve your health, reduces congestion, improves air quality, and it's great fun.

This is why Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is committed to delivering and maintaining a safe cycle network, and to delivering great cycling events such as Stockton Cycling Festival and Stockton Duathlon:

Cycle Routes in Stockton-on-Tees

A network of on and off-road cycleways crosses the Borough, making cycling a feasible and healthier option to car use for every trip. See the following maps for Stockton's cycleways.

Self guided cycle routes

The Borough of Stockton-on-Tees is a fascinating mix of old and new. If you know where to look, you can find traces of the past going back more than 3000 years. Our short self guided cycle routes take you through some of these areas, routes range from 4 miles to 7.8 miles so there's something for everyone.

Plan a cycle route

Cyclestreets can help you plan a cycle route depending on the type of journey you want. Select quiet roads if you're not confident on two wheels, the quickest route if your against the clock or most recreational if you want to see the sights.

Bikeability - Cycling Training

Getting the best out of your bike needs some specialist knowledge and skills, there’s much more to riding than just turning the pedals. Bikeability is cycling proficiency training for the 21st century, designed to give the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today's roads. In July 2015 Highways England implemented a decision to ban cycling on the A19 between the A689 Wolviston Interchange in the north and the A174 Interchange in the south following consultation with stakeholders.
