If your child was born between 1 September 2006 and 31 August 2007 your child is due to start secondary school in September 2018.

The Council is responsible for the coordination of admissions to all thirteen secondary schools in the Borough for entry in September 2018 to comply with the School Admission Code 2014.

Councillor Ann McCoy, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "Moving up to secondary school is a significant step for children and their parents so we try very hard to make the process as smooth as possible.

"We encourage parents and carers to make full use of the opportunity to apply to up to three schools, and make sure they submit their application in time."

The allocation of places will be made by the Council while taking into account parents' and carers' preferences. Full details of the Council's admission policy can be found at School admissions.

Details on the applications for a place at voluntary aided schools, free schools, academies or schools outside the Borough will be forwarded to the relevant bodies for consideration.

The easiest way to submit an application is via the online form which is available at Schools and Education.

Application letters and forms have also been distributed throughout primary schools.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council receives over 2,000 applications per year for secondary school places so parents and carers are being advised to submit their application as soon as they can.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday 31 October and late submissions will not be processed until places have been allocated for those who applied in time. Late application runs the risk of your child missing out one a place at one of your preferred schools.

Those who apply online and opt to receive an email informing them which school has allocated a place to their child will receive this on Thursday 1 March 2018. Letters will be posted out to notify all other parents and carers of the outcome of their application.

Any necessary appeals will be heard in May or June 2018, dependent on the volume of applications received.
