There are 12 Parish Councils, 4 Town Councils and 1 Parish Meeting within the Borough. These are independent Councils providing their own services to residents within their respective Parishes.
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, working together with Local Parish/Town Councils have produced the Stockton-on-Tees Partnership Strategy for Local Councils.
The Parish/Town Councils reflect local needs and opinion and have the power to provide their neighbourhoods with certain local services. The nature of these varies from place to place; Parish Councils may maintain play areas, village greens, public conveniences or parking areas in some areas. The Borough Council consults Parish and Town Councils for their views on all planning applications within their areas. Where Parish Councils do not meet regularly, there may be Parish Meetings at which local residents can make their views known.
