Race Equality

Religious Men

It is important to note that race is predominantly a social construct - in other words, scientists have discovered that only two percent of our genes are ultimately responsible for the visible differences such as skin colour.

The word 'race' once meant simply 'family'. Later, it was used more loosely for national groups such as a French or German race. In the nineteenth century, scientists used it to describe the 'races of Man': groups defined by their physical differences from one another, such as skin colour, hair type, body shape and so on.

We are committed to:

· Eliminating unlawful discrimination
· Promoting equality of opportunity
· Promoting good relations between different racial groups across the Borough.
