Disability Equality Duty
The Disability Equality Duty:
Introduced by the Disability Discrimination Act (2005), the Council has a legal requirement to carry out both general and specific duties:
The General Duty:
- Promote equality of opportunity
- Eliminate harassment & discrimination of disabled people
- Encourage participation by disabled people in public life
- Account for and make reasonable adjustments for disabled peoples disabilities
The Specific Duties:
- Publish and review a Disability Equality Scheme every three years ensuring disabled people are involved in its development and delivery.
