Local Government Elections 2003
In 2003, all-postal voting to elect Councillors for Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and for Parish Councils in the area took place for the first time. Stockton Borough is one of the first areas in the country to trial this form of voting, as part of a Government-approved pilot scheme to increase participation in elections.
Final results: seats by party following 2003 election:
Labour: 28 seats
Conservative: 13 seats
Liberal Democrat: 6 seats
Thornaby Independent: 8 seats
Voter turnout: 2003 average: 52.4 per cent
Total number of votes cast 67,113
