Members' Allowances

A statutory framework governs Members' Allowances and travel and subsistance expenses.  Although within that framework Local Authorities have a certain degree of discretion to determine their own arrangements, it is essential that Members' entitlements are clearly defined and are limited to reimbursing Members for reasonable levels of authorised and approved expenditure incurred in the course of Council business.
