About myself.
This year my husband, Councillor John Fletcher, has become Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees Borough, and I am acting as his Mayoress. However I will still be doing all the activities I normally would as ward councillor for Bishopsgarth and Elm Tree, as well as wider Council activities.

If you are interested in what Mayors get up to you can see the current Mayor's blog at www.stockton.gov.uk/mayorsblog and the blog from my Mayoral year at www.stockton.gov.uk/mayorsblog0607

Council work
I serve on the Corporate and Adult Services Committee and Housing and Community Safety Committees of the Council, as well as the Market Forum. I represent the Council, along with Cllr Julia Roberts, on the Elm Tree Community Centre Management Committee. I also represent the Council, along with others, on The Renaissance Board and Stockton Central Area Partnership.

I have just completed chairing a "Task and Finish" group of the Corporate and Adult Services Committee looking into the Voluntary and Community Services in Stockton, and their relationship with the Council.

Councillors involvement on the Council can be much wider than the committees they serve on though, and I regularly contribute to questions and debate at Council meetings. I also chair the Liberal Democrat Group on the Council.

Outside the Council.
I am a volunteer for an independent advice agency in Stockton, and have been for over 30 years.
I am a member of HANE (Housing Action North East), which is involved with homelessness issues around the North East Region, and represent that organisation on the NE Housing Board Voluntary and Community Sector Advisory Forum.

Outside politics.
Supporting my husband in his role as Mayor as well as Council work leaves little time for other activities! However I am an active member of our Anglican Church, St John's, Egglescliffe. We spend time with our family who live near York when possible. I love our local countryside, read when I can, catch up with Radio 4 programmes on my MP3 player when I get the technology right, and try to exercise at our local Leisure Club. I used to list doing cross stitch as a hobby, but confess to not touching it for over a year.

Previous experience.
I have stood for Parliament as a Liberal Democrat in Stockton North in 1991 and 1995, then Stockton South in 1999.
I am involved in many Liberal Democrat activities nationally and have taken part on Policy Panels producing policy papers on Housing and on Local Economics.
I have served on Cleveland Police Authority and the North East Regional Assembly.
