I was born and brought up in Hartlepool, or West Hartlepool as it was then, and I lived there throughout my school life. After leaving school I travelled daily to Middlesbrough, where I worked in banking for four years.

I married at the age of 20 and after my husband left the Royal Navy, where he had served as a petty officer and mechanical engineer for many years, we trained in pub management and moved to Westerhope in Newcastle. I have two children from my first marriage but sadly I was widowed so moved back to Hartlepool in 1981, where I concentrated on bringing up the children, who are now adults with families of their own.

In 1994 I married my present husband, Maurice, and we moved to Wolviston where we ran a replica antiques shop for several years and also my husband's upholstery business, until he retired. I now have an extended family with my two children and also three step children and seven grandchildren between them all.

In 2001, after being involved in local issues, I was asked to stand for election as a Stockton Borough Councillor and was pleased and honoured to be elected. Since that time things have changed on the local political stage and I am now part of the Billingham Independents Association (BIA), within Stockton Borough Council and am now more involved than ever before with issues across the Borough and in particular within Billingham.

Like the other Councillors in Billingham North I am passionate about the area and became a Councillor to try and improve the quality of life for all of our residents.

In addition to representing your views on Stockton Borough Council I am also BIA Group Leader, a member of Executive Scrutiny Committee and the Members Advisory Panel.
