O'Donnell, Jean

Cllr Jean ODonnellWelcome to my web pages. I hope you find them interesting and useful. If you can't find the information you need on these pages or elsewhere on the Stockton Council website please let me know by email, letter, phone or at one of my ward surgeries. My details are in the Contact Us section of this page. My Frequently Asked Questions page (FAQs) might have information that can help you quickly too.

I hold a joint surgery with Cllr Mike Smith every month, usually at Billingham Library on Bedale Avenue. More details of surgery times and venue can be found by following the link called Billingham South under Also of Interest on this page.

I have lived in my ward since 1952. I am a retired Legal Secretary and became a Borough Councillor in 1991 representing, first of all St Aidens ward for four years and thereafter St. Cuthbert's ward, now called Billingham South, to the present day. So as you can imagine I have a wide experience of most Council related matters.

I was Mayor of the Borough in 2002 - 2003 and was also the Mayoress in 1996. I sit as Chairman of the Arts Leisure and Culture Select Committee, and am a long-standing member of the Cleveland Fire authority where I am currently the Chairman. I also sit on the Stockton Council Corporate, Adult Services & Social Inclusion Select Committee and the Executive Scrutiny Committee. Along with another two councillors I represent Stockton Council on the North East Purchasing Organisation. I am also a Member of Billingham Town Council.

I am an honorary member of the garden section of the Old Billingham Carnival and Garden Show, which is held annually during the first week of September. The show has been going for many years and exhibitors come from across the region. Our leeks and onions are legendary. The dahlia and chrysanthemum section of the show are stunning, and the Stockton Borough Council Mayor usually presents the prizes. If you would like more information about the carnival and show please feel free to get in touch.

I also support the National Get Hooked on Fishing Project which has a regional project based in Billingham. The project aims to create opportunities for young people by delivering fun training associated with the sport of angling. You can find much more about the project, including contact details, on their website via a link in the Web Links section on this page.

For relaxation I like to paint land and waterscapes in watercolours and my friends and family tell me that I am definitely improving! The painting group that I belong to meet in St Cuthbert's Church Hall on Saturday afternoons at 1pm and we would welcome new members of all abilities.
