Javed, Mohammed
I was elected as a councillor to Stockton Borough Council in
May 2007. I am the first Asian to be elected as a councillor in Stockton
which is a historic change for Stockton. I work supporting people with
learning disabilities; a job which gives me great pleasure helping
disadvantaged people and improving their quality of life.
I am a member of the housing and community safety select committee and also
the appeals and complaints committee. I am on the board of the
International Family Centre and the Corner House Project which deals with
youth in Stockton. I am also on the board of the Neighbourhood Management
Pathfinder. I am also a governor of Mill Lane School in Stockton.
I support many charities, including Healing hand which is building houses
in Kashmir after the earthquake there three years ago. We raised over
£80,000 with the help of the people of Stockton and of Stockton Borough
Council.
I am a member of the Mosque Committee and we are in the process of building
the first purpose built designed Mosque in Stockton-on-Tees which is the
first of it's kind in Teesside.
I am married and live with my wife and three children in my ward. I enjoy
watching my favourite sports; cricket, football and tennis. I particularly
like watching Wimbledon.
I came into politics because I like to serve people and I love to meet
people from different backgrounds but most importantly of all I like to
help people.
