Joint Bodies and Outside Bodies

Each year, the Council is invited by many community groups, local authority joint bodies, regional and other bodies active in the area, to nominate elected members from the Council (Councillors) to serve on the management committee of the outside body organisation; either in an executive or advisory capacity.

The difference between each role can often be that:-

Councillors serving in an executive capacity may be required to take an active part in the organisations decision making and be required to vote on decisions in connection with its business. Such decisions may concern the management of funds held by the organisation; or the management of employees (Councillors acting in this role will also undertake the responsibilities outlined below in terms of advising the organisation)  ;

Councillors serving in an advisory capacity are there to offer advice to the organisation only as a representative of the Council; exchanging views and seeking opportunities for joint working and being mutually beneficial. This role will not involve the councillor being involved in making decisions on behalf of the organisation.

Appointments to the organisations the Council are involved with are made annually each year at the Annual Meeting of Council; and at the first Cabinet meeting of the municipal year. Details of the outside bodies each of our Councillors are involved in can be found by visiting our Egenda system where you will find a profile of each councillor and the committees and outside body organisations they are represented on.

A collective schedule of each of the outside body organisations with councillor representation can be found within the "Additional Resource" section on this page . Here you will find contact details for each of the organisations and, where they exist and have been authorised by the organisation themselves, web links taking you to the latest information contained on their own website, including any minutes of meetings they have held.
