You said... We did... Home Improvement Agency

PainterIn May 2008 we asked the Viewpoint Panel for their thoughts on the introduction of a Home Improvement Agency (HIA).

The aim of the HIA was to help elderly and disable people live in comfort and safety and as independently as possible within their own homes for as long as possible.

The results of the survey we re used to develop the type of service that you said you wanted and which we put in place in November 2008. Since that time the service has gone from strength to strength.

The HIA has also been successful in winning the contract from the Council for the provision of low cost adaptations which has not only improved the service the Council provides to its residents but also saved the Council money as well. Last year the HIA installed more than 2,000 low-cost adaptations which have helped to keep elderly and disabled residents safe and independent in their own homes.

The handyperson service which is part of the Home Improvement Agency and provides free help and assistance to elderly and disabled residents with small scale repairs and odd jobs around the home has helped more than 1,500 residents since it was introduced.

The service also attracted additional government funding meaning we could help more people than originally expected.
