The Partnership is supporting the Billingham Legacy Fund and have a representative from the Board who sits on the Board of Directors.  The Legacy Fund was set up by a former partnership board member to benefit people and projects in the Billingham area.  The concept of a Legacy Fund is that you never spend the money donated but instead build up a pot of money that generates interest.  The interest can then be given to people and projects that need it.  People can pledge from £1. Eastern Area Communities Fund supporting two new developments - Teesdale Park and Windmill Park

Teesdale Park

Teesdale Park has seen years of neglect and after carrying out some consultation it was clear that the area is of natural beauty and should be developed and looked after further for community usage.  The park is currently used by Thornaby FC and the paths are used for dog walking.  Ray Morton from Thornaby FC has secured funding from Big Lottery and Community Wildlife along with Communities Fund money and working with staff from Groundworks.  The park has purchased a portakabin, which will be used as a training facility for schools, groups and organisations wishing to carry out work or get involved in the activities proposed at the park.  Other works include:

  • Clearing site of rubble and scrap
  • Erecting palisade fencing and gates
  • Installing a teen shelter and picnic benches
  • Installing a fitness trail
  • Installing signage and carvings

Windmill Park

A new play facility near Ingleby Mill Primary School has recently opened and is supported by the Eastern Area Partnership who funded over £5,000 of Communities Fund money toward the installation of a section of palisade fencing at the rear of the site in the woodland.  The work was undertaken by the Community Payback Team (Probation Services), where over a period of three weeks the team cut back a section through the woodland and then installed the fence.  As well as one supervisor on site, there was an average of 6 offenders a day working with the supervisor, providing a total of 99 days labour.
