Today it was my Mayor's Sunday Service and Parade at Stockton Parish
Church. It was a shame it was such a wet day.
We met with other civics in the Town Hall for coffee before the Parade and
then Kevin, the Mayor's Attendant, sorted out the positions in the
parade. The Parade started from the south end of the High Street led
by the Salvation Army band. The Parade halted at the Town Hall where the
Mayor's party joined them for the march up to the Parish Church.
We took our seats in the Parish Church and enjoyed a lovely service. My
Chaplain, Tim Parker, gave a very good and relevant sermon about the
problems in the world at this time and the need for people to look at
Christian values.
We had a relatively dry parade back to the Town Hall where I and the Deputy
Lieutenant of North Yorkshire took the salute. We then retired to the Town
Hall for refreshments to end an enjoyable morning.
We then went to Stillington Show which was being held on the Playing Field
in Stillington. It was fine when we arrived, where we were met by Judith
Turner the organiser, but that didn't last very long as the showers soon
started.
We enjoyed watching the Line Dancers in the central arena as both Marjorie
and I have been line dancing for about 14 years. Judith took us on a tour
of the stalls for the different organisations represented at the show. In
the Pets Mania tent it was my pleasure to hold a corn snake, though I think
I would have refused to handle a King Cobra. The snake was very docile and
felt very smooth and seemed to enjoy being handled. Stillington has a
very vibrant community with many of the residents taking part in such
activities as painting and handicrafts.
We did have some wins on the church tombola and were quite happy to give
the box of winegums to the children. It was still raining when we took our
leave from Stillington.
