Marjorie and I were welcomed to the Norton Methodist Church Hall by Mrs
Christine Brooks, the County Commissioner for the Guides where we were
introduced to everyone.
The first part of the evening was called "Airing and Sharing" during which
the leaders shared ideas of crafts, games, challenges and other activities.
This gave Marjorie and I a chance to see and take part in the activities
and also time to meet the guides and leaders. I tried the quiz while
Marjorie was busy making badges out of beads. It was soon time for the
actual meeting with its reports and financial matters. I was asked to give
a short speech in which I encouraged the leaders to continue with such good
work and helping the children and young people to enjoy their time with the
Guides.
Two of the young leaders are going to the Guide House in Switzerland this
year and they held a raffle to help them raise money for the trip. We were
lucky and won one of the prizes which, of course, we will be recycling for
other mayoral events.
The evening finished with refreshments and the young leaders had been very
busy producing all the lovely snacks for everyone to enjoy. This again gave
us time to talk to the leaders who we had missed earlier.
We left for home after a very enjoyable evening.
