This month Marjorie and I have been line dancing for 15 years and we thoroughly enjoy the two nights each week we spend line dancing. We learn a new dance each night, which helps our memories (some of the class could be loosely be called "elderly"). The exercise keeps us fit and laughter often fills the room as mistakes (or variations) are made. Ann Smith has been our teacher since we started. Unfortunately, her husband, Brian, who operated the music side and kept us all highly amused, died a few years ago from a heart attack. Now Ann runs a Line Dance Charity Night each year in March for "Take Heart" which Brian was involved with. We find line dancing a good relaxation after all our mayoral duties during the 2010/2011 year. We are all good friends now at the classes, but unfortunately have had to miss many of the Friday nights because of mayoral duties. We will be back to normal after May.
Stockton Stage Society Production of "Oliver" at The Arc
Marjorie and I were welcomed to the Arc Theatre by David Carter and David
Colam who are Vice-Presidents of the Stockton Stage Society. I worked with
David Colam during a contract at Tioxide at the Greatham Factory some years
ago, so it was good to meet him again. We also met several of the Society
Members before being escorted to our seats in the theatre.
With it being a small theatre you feel as if you are part of the show which
is very exciting. The youngest member of the cast was 8 years old, but
wasn't put off by the audience and like all the cast gave an outstanding
performance. George the dog who took the part of Bill Sykes dog, Bullseye,
took everything on his stride and seemed to have a permanently wagging
tail. The show was so good that the time passed so quickly and was soon
over. We had our photographs taken with some of the cast, but we both had
trouble keeping Fagin's hands off the Mayoral Chains. We stayed behind and
had a cup of tea and time to talk to the Society members. It was then time
for a relaxed car ride home.
