Marjorie and I had a good clean out of prizes etc we have collected up from
the charity events we have attended to use on the Tombola, Raffle and White
Elephant stalls. We must thank everyone who helped the event in any way.
There was a good turnout and I helped Councillor Bob Gibson on the White
Elephant stall, and we did quite well. There was a large Teddy Bear and
Donkey and the competition was to name each one. Ken Lupton, the Council
Leader, won the Teddy Bear and Neil Schneider, the Council's Chief
Executive, won the Donkey - I wonder where these will turn up again.
I have just had an email to say that £856.79 was raised for my charities,
which is really good.
Heavy Cavalry and Cambrai Military Band at St Luke's Church,
Billingham
This event was a relaxing one as it wasn't a official Mayoral event and was
organised by David Smith of the Cleveland and Durham District Lodge of the
Oddfellows. The evening was to raise funds for the Army Benevolent Fund and
raised the great sum of £1,500 which was excellent. With the band and the
audience St Luke's Church was packed and everyone was looking forward to an
enjoyable concert and we weren't disappointed. The band played a variety of
music to suit all tastes. The only comments we had at the end of the
evening were good ones. The trouble was that everyone enjoyed the concert
so much it passed too quickly. I was asked to thank the Band and everyone
who attended for their support and give an extra round of applause to the
Band.
We went home after another enjoyable event.
