We were welcomed to the Cathedral Service by Ann Ming and Lil Sewell who
have both lost relatives due to murder. It was nice to meet them
again as we were at a Christmas Party event with them in Billingham.
Ann Ming worked very hard for several years to get the double
jeopardy laws rescinded by Parliament.
We were escorted to our seats at the front of the Cathedral and joined by
Councillor Ray and Marjorie Goddard, the Mayor and Mayoress of Redcar &
Cleveland, and also by Councillor Ron Lowes, a Cabinet Member from
Middlesbrough Council. A Music Group were playing some delightful
music while everyone took their seats before the service started.
It was a very moving service with a talk by a Salvation Army Officer about
his childhood growing up in Nottingham. The congregation lit candles
for each victim during a reading of the names of people who had died.
Marjorie and I were amazed when the list was read out and it had over
80 Names on it.
After the service we joined everyone in the meeting room for a welcome cup
of coffee and time to speak to people. We had photographs taken
before we left for home.
