It was just a short drive from our house to the Wynyard Business Park to
the new AMEC office in the Lion Building. We were welcomed by the
AMEC staff and shown up to the reception room where we had coffee and part
of the presentation before the Duke of Kent arrived. We were escorted
down the stairs to the office entrance and stood outside in the pleasant
sunshine to wait for the Duke of Kent who came in with the usual security
escort. It was my job to welcome the Duke to the new office and the
area of Stockton-on-Tees before he met the other welcoming party. We
followed him up the stairs to the main office where he received the
introduction presentation, after which we returned to the reception room
for the rest of our presentation. I worked for AMEC about 20 years
ago when I was a Contract Instrument Engineer.
We then saw the Duke of Kent set off to his next engagement and he said he
had enjoyed the visit and was very pleased with the green outlook of the
projects AMEC were involved in.
We had a buffet lunch and time to talk to AMEC staff before we were
escorted on a tour of the new offices before it was time to leave for
home.
