It was a pleasure today to receive residents of Lauder House, and their warden, into the Town Hall. Lauder House is sheltered accommodation, owned by Stockton Council, and it was good to see some I had known for a long time and others I had not met before. The age range went upwards to 102! Probably the oldest visitor we have had to the Town Hall (unless, of course, someone knows better!). Thank goodness there is a lift in the Town Hall now, it makes it so much more accessible for people.
Nearly everyone says the same thing when they arrive - "we've never been in here before".
An interesting talk from Kevin on the history and Barbara from Democratic Services on how the Council works, followed by a look round the Mayor's parlour and a little afternoon tea.
And what did they say on the way out - same as everyone else who has been on their first visit " Thank you, I did enjoy that"!
I will be hosting an "Open House at the Town House" on Friday 29th September at 10.00 a.m. Admission that day will be £3.00, in aid of my charities. Do spread the word and come along.
