About apprenticeships with Stockton Council
Stockton Council is here to provide vital services to keep the Borough ticking.
We do everything from looking after roads, teaching schoolchildren, organising events and emptying bins.
We offer social services to those who rely on them, lend thousands of books through our libraries and much more besides.
Our Apprenticeship scheme will offer great opportunities for people who would like to play an important part in the vital services we provide for our communities.

Our apprenticeship programme aims to:
- provide job learning opportunities, in particular for young people (16-24)
- provide structured training and nationally recognised qualifications
- develop young people and those who are under represented in the workforce to improve their employability skills and work opportunities
The type of people we are looking for
To be considered for apprenticeship with Stockton Borough Council we are looking for applicants with the following qualities:
- self motivated and positive
- hard working
- a team player but also able to work on their own initiative
- be committed to working in the public sector
- willing to learn and develop to help us to continue provide excellent services for the local community
- have commitment and enthusiasm
What you can expect in return
You will earn £2.60 per hour in the first year of your apprenticeship (increasing to £2.65 from October 2012) and gain both work experience and a national vocational qualification.
You will have a mentor who will give you lots of support to develop your career as well as a training and development plan that will develop your personal skills and lead to recognised industry accredited qualification.
You will be eligible to apply for advertised Council jobs; the skills that you get while training will give you an advantage when applying for jobs.
Once your apprenticeship has ended
We can't guarantee you a job at the end of your training but we can make sure you receive the best training and development to give you every possible chance to move into a permanent job.
