In 2009 we retained our Investors in People (IIP) accreditation for the fourth time and became the first North East council to gain a silver award at the new higher level of IIP assessment.

The 2009 report describes our culture as one "which included people working together to provide the best possible services, and people are happy, loyal, committed, motivated, enthusiastic and extremely proud of their accomplishments."  We continuously seek ways to strengthen our services to ensure that they are as efficient and cost effective as possible. Our sustained focus on achieving the ambition is evident, as is the culture of achievement and leadership from Councillors, managers and staff.
