What is a creche?

A creche provides supervised childcare for limited periods of time. Some are in permanent premises and care for children whose parents/carers are engaged in particular activities, e.g. shopping, sport, training. Others are established on a temporary basis to care for children while their parents/carers are involved in time-limited activities, e.g. conference, exhibition.

Do creches have to be registered?

Permanent creches and temporary creches that run more than 6 times per year must be registered with OfSTED.
Temporary creches that run less than 6 times per year do not have to be registered.

Where can I find out about creches in my area?

Contact Stockton Childcare Information Service.

How much will a creche charge?

You can expect to pay between £2.00 - £4.00 per session.
