My boyfriend's name is not on the birth certificate?

Yes, if your boyfriend is your child's natural father. Contact the register office and ask for a GRO185 which you will both have to sign. You will both have to attend before the Registrar to complete the re-registration. Once you have added the father's details to the register, he has equal parental responsibility for your child - once acquired only a court can remove this parental responsibility.
