Choosing a Memorial

What do I need to do to have a memorial erected on a grave?

The Bereavement Services Section does not provide a masonry service, so you will need to contact a memorial mason or funeral director to commission the work.

We operate an Annual Memorial Mason Registration scheme, which helps to ensure that memorials are fitted professionally, safely and to the specifications stated in our Rules and Regulations. No-one other than one of our approved masons may carry out any memorial works within our cemeteries.

Please contact us if you would like a copy of our current list of Authorised Memorial Masons, but please be aware that we cannot recommend any particular mason to you.

The Bereavement Services Officer must approve any memorials, inscriptions or other works before your mason proceeds with your order. Your mason must submit a Memorial Application Form before permission is granted for any work to be carried out and we will ask for this form to be signed by the registered owner of the Right to Erect a Memorial. If you are unsure who the registered owner of this Right is, please contact us.

Please also see our "Choosing a Memorial" page.
