...Your tenant's Local Housing Allowance rate will depend on how many people live in their household - not the amount of rent paid. They are allowed one bedroom each for: - Every adult couple (married or unmarried)
- Any other adult aged 16 or over
- Any two children of the same sex under the age of 16
- Any two children regardless of sex under the age of 10
- Any other child (under 16)
You can check how many bedrooms a tenant is entitled to by selecting the Rent Service's Bedroom Calculator. Once you have established the number of bedrooms, you can then check them against the Local Housing Allowance rates. If the tenant (and their partner) share parts of their home with other tenants (for example a bathroom or living room), they will receive the shared accommodation rate. Most single people aged under 25 will only qualify for the shared accommodation rate regardless of the type of accommodation they live in. These rates tell you the maximum amount of Local Housing Allowance that they can receive. Their actual benefit may be less depending on the amount of money they have coming in, their capital and if any other adults (not their partner) are living with them. |
