Who is eligible for Home Repairs Assistance?

Home Repairs Assistance Grants are not restricted to any particular ward or area and are available throughout the borough. Assistance is only available to remedy situations that pose a direct and imminent danger to the health and safety of the occupier. Assistance is limited to a maximum of £5000 per dwelling and only available to:

  • Owner occupiers over 60 years of age and subject to a means-test being undertaken.
  • Owner occupiers under 60 years of age who are in receipt of the following benefits:

    · Income Support

    · Income Based Jobseekers Allowance

    · Council Tax Benefit

    · Housing Benefit

Availability for Home Repairs Assistance Grants are subject to the available funding and policy in force at that time.

All grants are subject to a 5 year grant condition period, which could result in the Council reclaiming the grant monies paid, if the conditions are breached within the 5 year period.
