Which Houses in Multiple Occupation are exempt from registration?

  • HMOs with 4 persons or less
  • Houses or flats with only 2 households
  • Any house or flat occupied by 3 persons or less, plus the Landlord
  • Houses which are converted into self contained flats in accordance with Building Regulation Approval after 1985 or where at least one third of the flats are owner-occupied.
  • Local Authority and Housing Association owned properties
  • Educational and Health Service accommodation
  • Houses registered under the Registered Homes Act 1984 (Registered Care Homes) and Childrens Act 1989 (Childrens Homes)
  • Properties subject to control orders
