If my neighbouring property is very unkempt, what can Environmental Health do?

If there is suspicion that there may be a public health risk, for example there may be pest activity inside the property, or the property may be filthy due to an accumulation of food waste, we would take steps to gain entry to the property to assess conditions. We would then assess if the property was filthy and verminous, and work with the occupant to try and improve conditions in the property. If this is not possible, we may serve Notice under the Public Health Act 1961 requiring that the property be cleansed as necessary.

If the property is an eyesore and does not present any public health risk, we would advise you to contact Planning as the property may be detrimental to the amenity in the neighbourhood.
