What action does Environmental Health take if I report a garden with rubbish in it?

If possible, we would advise you to speak to your neighbours to request their garden is cleared. If you have tried this, or it has not been successful, please contact us.

We would make a visit to assess if conditions are a statutory nuisance. If conditions present a nuisance, we would request the person responsible to clear the waste material. If they did not cooperate, we would serve Notice requiring the waste material to be cleared within a specified period of time. If the refuse was not cleared, we would undertake the works in default and recharge the person responsible for the works.

If there is not a nuisance, we would informally request the owner or occupier to remove the waste.
