How do I apply for a place at a community school?

Our Borough is divided into areas known as 'admission zones'. An admission zone is given to each school within our Borough and where you live will affect which school this is. Your admission-zone school is on the secondary common application form which your child will receive in early Year 6 of primary school.(unless your child has a statement of special educational needs, in which case our SEN section will be liaising with you).

You can find our what your admission zone is by checking on our website www.stockton.gov.uk/schooladmissions or ask for a map of any school admission zone by phoning the School Admissions on (01642) 526605.

When giving out places at a school, we will give priority to pupils according to our admission policy which can be viewed on www.stockton.gov.uk/schooladmissions it is in the Primary and Secondary booklet

We use your permanent address when we decide admissions. If you have two addresses, we use the address you actually live at to decide on the admission-zone school. If you are separated from your partner and your child lives for periods with both of you, the address we will use will be of the parent who receives Child Benefit for the child.

If you and your family plan to move into a different school admission zone, we cannot consider you as a priority for the school in that zone until you have actually moved to that address and your new address is your main and permanent home.
If the school has more applications than places available, we will need to see proof of your new address such as your Child Benefit book or written confirmation from the Child Benefit Agency, your Council Tax bill and a utility bill (such as a gas or electricity bill).
It is your responsibility to find out which school admission zone you will be moving to. You can do this by contacting the Admissions Officer on (01642) 526605.

Every parent has the right to ask for a place for their child in another admission-zone school. We must meet your request unless we consider that admitting any more pupils would "prejudice either the efficient delivery of education or the efficient use of resources". In other words, we consider the school to be full.
