What is a Registered Childminder? |
|
A registered childminder is a self-employed person who works in their own home providing care and learning opportunities for children aged 8 and under for more than 2 hours a day.
Childminding is a career with all the responsibilities and rewards you would expect from being a self employed professional.
What's in it for me?
Childminding is challenging, rewarding , important and, most of all enjoyable. You can make a career out of it, if that's what you want, yet flexible enough to fit around your lifestyle. A good childminder can make a huge difference to the lives of children and their families.
Childminding is particularly suitable for parents with young children, who want to combine paid work with looking after their own children. But we also want to recruit people - men and women - from the wider community.
What if I am currently claiming benefit?
If you are receiving benefits then childminding could be an ideal career move. It may be that only one third of your earnings as a registered childminder are taken into account when calculating your benefits. Contact the benefit agency for an informal discussion.
