Do I need approval to install or alter a heating appliance?
To alter a gas appliance- Yes (unless the work is undertaken by a HETAS registered installer - please refer to the External Links section on this page)
To alter a solid fuel appliance- Yes
To alter a oil fired appliance- Yes (unless the work is undertaken by an Oil Firing Technical Association OFTEC registered installer)
N.B. All new gas and oil boilers must be condensing boilers. In exceptional circumstances however, when it is not possible to fit one into your home, you may fit another type of boiler but it must be the most efficient type of boiler possible
You will also need to apply for approval if you wish to erect or alter a chimney or flue to an appliance
