Do I need to apply for Building Regulations

Do I need approval for electrical work?

Yes electrical work generally has to comply with the Building Regulations, for example; the installation of new sockets, switches and lights within a kitchen or bathroom, new power or lighting circuits, work to garden lighting/ponds, etc.

You do not however require approval for repairs, replacements and maintenance work; or extra power points or lighting points to existing circuits that are not in a kitchen, bathroom, or outdoors (providing they are on a spur connection). Please refer to the Electrical Safety Guidance and the Notifiable Work guidance notes below for further information.

More detailed information can be found on the

"Part P Electrical Safety" page of this web site.
