Do I need Building Regulation Approval to convert my loft into a room?

Yes.

An application is required to convert a loft space into a room regardless of what the room is used for.

This work can be very complicated and if the conversion is to an existing 2 storey house i.e. the conversion will make the dwelling 3 storeys high (ground, first and second floors), then there are many important fire precautions which need to be included within the conversion.

For further information we have produced a guidance note which is available from our reception, alternatively it can be downloaded from the Downloads section below.
