Do I need Building Regulation Approval to install or alter the position of a heating appliance?

Gas Fire Appliance- Yes, unless the work is undertaken by a CORGI registered installer. N.B. When a new appliance is installed (and in some circumstances, when it is moved) the work must be carried out by a CORGI registered installer.

Solid Fuel Appliance- Yes


Oil Fired appliance- Yes, unless the work is undertaken by an Oil Firing Technical Association (OFTEC) registered installer.

N.B. All new gas and oil boilers must be condensing boilers. In exceptional circumstances however, when it is not possible to fit one in your home, you may fit another type of boiler, but it must be the most efficient type of boiler possible.

You will also need to apply for approval if you wish to erect or alter a chimney or flue to an appliance.
