Is my street adopted by the Council?

Nearly all the streets in the District are adopted as highways maintainable at the public's expense, especially those that have been in place for a number of years. On new housing estates it may well be that the responsibility for the street is still with the developer. The Council will not take over the street until all any remedial works found necessary have been undertaken, nameplates are in place, and the street lighting is in order. Even then a "maintenance period" is undertaken to ensure that the road will stand up to traffic and that flooding does not occur. This period is usually 12 months or so. Still not sure? Then contact the Council by way of the usual links or direct line telephone on 526717.
