Are pedestrian routes, footways and pavements treated during Winter?

Normally, footways and cycleways affected by overnight frosts will not be treated. However, during periods when snow and ice remains for a prolonged period, footways in main shopping areas and certain other priority areas will be treated with all available resources. The areas in question will include (in descending order):-

  • Town centre streets.
  • Shopping frontages (where adopted).
  • Busy pedestrian routes and footbridges.
  • Steep sections of footways and approaches to underpasses.
  • Housing areas for predominately elderly residents.
  • Hospitals and doctors surgery frontages.
  • School frontages.
  • Community centre frontages.
