Bailiff Action - Council Tax

What will happen if I won't pay and won't let the Bailiff in?

If you don't allow the Bailiff in or if he decides there isn't anything worth taking to pay off the debt he will notify the Council. The Council may then decide to make an application for your committal to prison. This could mean you having to appear before the Teesside Magistrates Court in order for them to look into your current financial circumstances and at the time the debt arose.

The Magistrates will then decide if you have enough money to pay what you owe even though you have not done so. Or they may decide you are not bothered about repaying your debt. If so they may send you straight to prison that same day.
