Threat of terrorism
We aim to make this area a safe place to live and work. The threat from international and domestic terrorism is fully appreciated and a number of multi-agency initiatives are underway to reduce the threat we all face.
There is no specific terrorist or violent extremist threat to the Teesside
area, however terrorism and violent extremism remains a real and serious
threat to us all.
Current terrorism threat
The UK threat from International terrorism has been reduced to substantial (an attack in the UK is a strong possibility). This is a modest reduction and still represents a high level of threat to the UK from international terrorism.
The threat from Irish related terrorism remains at substantial.
What to do if you suspect terrorist activity or there is a real threat of terrorist activity
We all have a very important part to play in countering the threat from terrorism. This includes being aware of the threat, being able to identify suspicious behaviour and how to report incidents.
In the event of a terrorist, or suspected terrorist incident the following advice should be followed:
- Find out practical advice about what you should consider doing in the event of a terrorist incident.
- In an emergency dial: 999
- Non-emergency dial: (01642) 326326

Advice for business
The National Counter Terrorism Security Office offers particularly useful information and self-assessment tools that allows a to businesses to self-assess reducing the vulnerability of crowded places sites across the UK. Small to medium enterprises (SMEs) that may not have necessarily considered themselves as, or even 'part of' a crowded place may find information provided by the organisation to be useful. Take a look at the Crowded Places Vulnerability Self Assessment Tool (VSAT).
